About

Dr. María Yareli Delgado is a Visiting Assistant Professor and Co-Coordinator of the Hispanic Serving Graduate Leadership Certificate. She holds degrees from The University of Texas at Arlington (Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies), University of North Texas (Masters of Higher Education), University of Texas at Arlington (Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies), and Dallas College-North Lake Campus (Associates Degree of Arts in Bilingual Education).

Dr. Delgado has over fifteen years of experience in community college administration (academic affairs and student services). Prior to coming to UTA, Dr. Delgado was a full-time administrator at Tarrant County College- Southeast. She led the Supplemental Instruction Program and Hispanic Serving Initiatives. In addition, she served as coordinator of academic programs and adjunct faculty at Dallas College-Northlake Campus.

Her research areas of expertise examine three interconnected lines of inquiry (1) Hispanic Serving Institutions: defining servingness and experiences of Latino faculty at Hispanic Serving Institutions, especially at community colleges, (2) Leadership: experiences of women of color leading community colleges, and (3) Latinx Students: experiences of first-generation Latinx community college students and Early Collegiate High Schools. Dr. Delgado’s research has been published in The Community College Journal of Research and Practice. Currently, Dr. Delgado is researching the experiences of Latinx students enrolled at a community college in North Texas and their perception of the term Latinx.
