About

My name is Porfirio Lopez Jr. I was born on July 22, 1990 in Fort Worth, TX where I have lived at most of my life. After high school, I attended a community college to complete my basic college-level requirements. I wasn’t so sure what I wanted to do or what I wanted to be, so I enlisted in the Army to help me find the right path of course in my life. I knew I always wanted to go to college and be the first in my family to obtain a degree so after a year and a half away from home, I began attending UT-Arlington in the fall of 2012. I earned my bachelor’s degree in the fall of 2014, majoring in Spanish and Communications with a minor in English. I had begun to have an interest in translations during my last year in the undergraduate program and I focused my attention on that field after graduation. Eventually, I went back to UT-Arlington and earned a translation certificate from the Modern Languages Department. Thereafter, I worked in different jobs; some in translation, others didn’t involve translation. I still hadn’t really found a career, per se, but I wanted to keep learning about the Spanish language and I, then, began the graduate program, again, at UT-Arlington where I finally graduated in the spring of 2018. I was really proud of my achievement, at that point, and I knew that I had made my parents proud. I even landed a good job in Dallas where the main focus was translation and transcription. I’m still in the translation field, but my mind is always trying to learn and so I’m focusing right now on getting into the IT field by taking courses online. In my free time, I enjoy working out, practicing jiu-jitsu and reading. I’ve seen people come and go in my life like busboys at new restaurants, but my immediate family will always be my number one support. A lot has changed in Fort Worth/Dallas since the years when I was growing up, everything from government polices to the places we eat to the people that now call Texas home. I would like to help continue making the DFW metroplex the wonderful, diverse community it is by performing a civic duty and volunteer my time to support our community.
